We, the German Association for Data Protection and Data Security (GDD), is currently seeking a full-time or part-time (Jr./Sr.) Legal Consultant (m/f/d) for data protection and data security with a focus on European association work within CEDPO
As a non-profit organisation with around 4,000 members, the GDD is committed to meaningful, reasonable and technically feasible data protection. Our goal is to provide practical support to companies and public authorities in implementing the legal, technical and organisational requirements of data protection.
Part of your work will involve active participation in the Confederation of European Data Protection Organisations (CEDPO), the European umbrella organisation that the GDD itself helped to establish as one of its founding members.
CEDPO is committed to balanced, practicable and harmonised data protection across Europe. This includes, in particular, participation in European legislative processes, the preparation of position papers, cooperation with the European Commission and participation in workshops of the European Data Protection Board (EDPB).
Its diverse tasks include, in particular:
- Representing the GDD and CEDPO at EU level and actively participating in European committees and working groups (e.g. EDSA)
- Drafting and presenting position papers on EU legislation and regulatory developments
- Analysing and preparing data protection developments in the EU/EEA
- Advising international stakeholders and supporting GDD members,
- Promoting international cooperation and the exchange of best practices,
- Preparing practical guides, statements and technical publications (e.g. in RDV/EuDIR),
- Participating in internal projects, working groups and events of the GDD,
- Supporting public relations work (including social media).
Your qualifications include:
- Completed law degree (preferably 1st and 2nd state examinations or master's degree from a university),
- Knowledge of data protection law,
- Interest in information technology,
- Ability to explain complex legal issues in a way that is appropriate for the target audience,
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills (native German speaker level),
- Very good command of English.

Sinnvoller, vertretbarer und technisch realisierbarer Datenschutz
Die GDD tritt als gemeinnützige Organisation mit jahrzehntelanger Erfahrung und einem breiten Netzwerk für einen „Datenschutz mit Augenmaß“ ein. Um Unternehmen, Konzernen und sonstigen datenverarbeitenden Stellen sowie insbesondere den dort benannten Datenschutzbeauftragten bei der Umsetzung der vielfältigen Anforderungen zu unterstützen, leistet die GDD praktische Unterstützung und Hilfestellung durch fachlichen Rat.
Die GDD pflegt eine intensive Zusammenarbeit mit Wirtschaft, Politik und Wissenschaft. Sie vertritt die Belange der datenverarbeitenden Stellen, der Datenschutzbeauftragten, aber auch der betroffenen Personen gegenüber Aufsichtsbehörden und vertritt deren Interessen in Prozessen der politischen Willensbildung.
Datenschutzrechtliche Selbstkontrolle und Selbstregulierung
Ein wesentliches Anliegen der GDD ist die Stärkung der Rolle des Datenschutzbeauftragten als wirksame datenschutzrechtliche Selbstkontrolle. Mit der Benennung einer Person als Datenschutzbeauftragter gelingt eine effektive Selbstregulierung, die staatliche Überwachung und Auflagen weitestgehend entbehrlich machen. In diesem Sinne fördert die GDD die Aus- und Weiterbildung von betrieblichen und behördlichen Datenschutzbeauftragten und leistet einen fachlichen Austausch mit Berufskollegen und Aufsichtsbehörden.
Die internationale Ausrichtung der GDD
Datenschutzrecht ist maßgeblich europarechtlich geregelt. Die GDD wirbt deswegen auch auf internationaler Ebene für das bewährte Prinzip der Bestellung von Datenschutzbeauftragten als Selbstkontrolle und bringt sich konstruktiv in die datenschutzrechtliche EU-Gesetzgebung ein. Auf Grundlage der Internationalisierung des Datenschutzes pflegt die GDD den fachlichen Austausch auch mit NGOs und Behörden anderer EU-Mitgliedstaaten und tritt global sowohl als eigenständiger Verband als auch als Mitglied der europäischen Dachorganisation CEDPO auf.
