Data Protection Officer

GDDcert. EU Data Protection Officer

Drawing on more than 30 years of experience, the GDD has developed a tiered training concept for the education and continuing professional development of data protection officers in companies and public authorities. Under the umbrella of the GDD Data Protection Academy, the basic qualifications of data protection officers are taught in a 10-day seminar cycle. This consists of three sections and covers the areas of

  • Data protection law and data protection organization (Part 1)
  • Technical and organizational data protection (Part 2) and
  • Data protection management (Part 3).

Since 2005, the GDD Data Protection Academy has offered certification of basic qualifications for company data protection officers. Certification as a “company data protection officer (GDDcert. EU)” offers several advantages for companies and data protection officers:

  • The qualifications of the company data protection officer can be documented within the company and to the supervisory authorities.
  • Furthermore, by certifying its data protection officer, the company can demonstrate its data protection quality to customers, business partners, and the public.
  • As part of risk management, the professional competence of the company data protection officer is also certified. GDDcert. EU also enables service providers processing personal data to demonstrate their data protection competence both within the group and as providers on the free market.

The concept and content of the examination to become a GDD-certified data protection officer were determined by the executive committee of the GDD Data Protection Academy. This executive committee consists of experts in the field of data protection who are recognized in research and teaching.

The exam consists of a written and an oral part. Candidates must complete a written exam on each of the three sub-areas of the basic qualification. The written exams consist partly of multiple-choice questions and partly of open-ended questions. As part of the oral exam, candidates must give a short presentation, which is then opened up for discussion.

Important! Our training courses are offered in German only!
