CEDPO
The Confederation of European Data Protection Organisations (CEDPO) is a European data protection umbrella organisation co-founded by the GDD in 2011. The association currently has ten member associations from the European Union, enabling it to participate in shaping European data protection with a common voice. CEDPO is represented in expert committees at European level, such as the Multistakeholder Expert Group of the Euro-pean Commission, which deals with issues relating to the application of the GDPR. CEDPO also actively participates in workshops of the European Data Protection Board. CEDPO pursues the following objectives in its activities:
- Promoting the role and perspective of the data protection officer in order to achieve adequate, practical, balanced, and effective compliance with data protection
- Supporting the activities of data protection practitioners responsible for implementing data protection in companies
- Initiating and maintaining communication with European institutions
- Encouraging European institutions to implement the ongoing development of data protection laws and practices
- Contributing to a balanced and harmonized interpretation of data protection concepts, laws, and practices in the European Union/European Economic Area and possibly in other countries, in particular through participation in public consultations
- Advocating for the importance of a balanced data protection culture and its effective implementation
- Developing and promoting qualification standards for DPOs and data protection officers
